Seasons

Cubera/other Snapper: Year round

Almaco Jack: December - March

Yellowfin Tuna: February - April

Dorado/Mahi: May - September

Wahoo: September - January

There are a number of unique species to target as well, such as African Pompano, Golden Trevally, Roosterfish, Snook (Robalo), and Tarpon.

The clearest inshore water is in December - April.

  • Speargun with 110 standard muzzle or greater in power. The water is typically quite clear and fish like Cubera and Almaco Jack have super strong heads.

  • Recommend 7.5-8.5mm shafts.

  • Wetsuit 1.5-3mm. The surface water temperature is warm for the Pacific, about 80-85F. The thermocline is real though! If you dont want to feel it too much go for the 3mm.

  • Extra shaft, although we do have backup guns/shafts.

  • Depth info for weighting purposes: There are fish to shoot in anywhere from the surface to 120+ feet, but most reef spots are 20-70 feet deep.

  • Reels/float/float line: For Tuna season we like bungee float lines. For other times we like a hybrid not too stretchy but enough to land a Wahoo. We have several lines and floats, let us know what you have or need.

  • We have one Carbon Fiber 120 inverted roller reelgun and one custom wood Wahoo/Tuna roller for your backup use. If you plan to not bring any spearguns we rent these guns at additional cost.

  • Water shoes, crocs, or well fitting sandals. Recommend to bring dry fit clothing. The air temperature is generally 75-85F but relatively humid. Medellin is warm/temperate during the day and cool at night.
